The current explosion of geography into the consumer market through global players like
Google, Microsoft and TomTom has created a positive and excitable atmosphere within the
geospatial world. Never before have we seen such movement in the market around mergers
and acquisitions by large global players of previously niche companies – this is symbolic of
the shift of geospatial from the professional office to the consumer desktop and the potential
marketing of this is exciting companies into spending billions of dollars to get involved. As we
see in general terms on the internet, the involvement of the mainstream will increase interest,
content and revenue. Wikipedia now contains more than 5.5 million articles and Google’s
revenues are topping $3.5 billion. |

Digital National
Framework - By Peter
Hanson, Senior Project
Manager |
| |
| Agencies have historically captured data from different versions and scales of
mapping but then encounter difficulties when trying to use data from other sources.
Although the DNF origins date back to the mid-1990s (if not before), the current DNF
initiative came out of the need to be able share spatial data against a common
reference base. |

A Life in the Day at
Infotech - Richard
Kauflholz |
| |
|
My name is Richard Kaufholz and I have
been working for Infotech Europe for 2
years. My job title is GIS Consultant, and
as you can see below, this means I am
busy on many projects, fulfilling many
roles. I am South African, but have been
living in London for almost 3 years and
currently stay in Islington, North London.
I still enjoy the hustle of life in London
and all the great opportunities there are
to do things you wouldn’t be able to
anywhere else in the world. There is
never a dull moment in London, which is
much like my job at Infotech! |

Tigers Roar! - By
David Crowther, Training
Manager |
| |
|
Infotech Tigers entered the annual AGI 5-A-Side football tournament at Kensington Sports
Centre, London. This is the second year that Infotech Tigers have competed in the
competition, having failed to make it out of the group stages in last year’s event.
This year, captained by Tigers veteran - David (The Cat) Crowther - Infotech Tigers sent a
squad of 8 players, one manager and a team photographer to capture the vital games.
The format of the competition included 3 groups of 4 teams, the winners and second
placed teams in each group to be entered into two mini leagues, the winners of which
would play in the final.
