| Weight reduction on
aircraft parts: |
| |
|
Infotech specializes in the reducing the weight of
the components used in the aircrafts. The engineers
of Infotech had successfully reduced the weight of
several components currently being used in aircrafts
using various weight optimization techniques.
Significant increase in the life of the component
accompanied by the equally significant weight
reduction helped the customers in saving cost and
increase profitability. Infotech uses both generic
optimization routine and multi disciplinary
optimization tool to achieve weight optimization
target, thus giving the Customer maximum benefit in
term of cost with much lighter product. Infotech
gained wide knowledge and expertise in using
Multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO) tools like
iSight as well as optimization routine using
Optistruct and Ansys. Infotech can develop best
schema of integrating different commercial software
(Modeling and Analysis) with MDO tools (iSight),
Apart from using Topology, size and shape
optimization routine using Optistruct. |

| Resolution of field
failure in aero engine component: |
| |
Infotech provides field failure support to
aero-engine makers. Infotech started providing this
cutting edge solution in 2000 by supporting Pratt &
Whitney’s aircraft engine design services.
Infotech’s Integrated Product Team receives Field
failure notifications through Customer Technical
Service that are in constant touch with Engine
operators and Airlines. Based on the field history
data for that part, team carries out series of
analyses to asses risk to the fleet due to field
failure and provides a field management plan. Team
uses various analytical and statistical tools to
determine the “Root Cause “of the problem and
propose a suitable corrective action which when
incorporated, can mitigate the problem. Couple of
the field resolutions, team did are listed below. |

| Infotech provided solutions to
several failures on a large engine disk Knife Edge
(Shark Bites). These cracks posed IFSD (In-Flight
Shut Down) risk to the operators. Team carried out a
detailed FE analysis and determined that Vibration
coupling between blade and the knife edge was
causing this problem and proposed a modified knife
edge design through a serious of design iterations
which ensured that vibration coupling between blade
and disk is minimized and provided a repair
procedure to modify the current design to have new
configuration. |
| |
| Since 2003, Infotech has been
engaged on supporting Pratt & Whitney on
investigating Field Failures and providing
resolutions. Infotech team has been continuously
demonstrating excellence in reviewing these field
failures and provided concrete solutions. |

Engineering standard implementation |
| |
| Infotech has a developed enterprise
wide “Engineering Standard Work software” tool to
consolidate and store individual engineering design
expertise and knowledge in an organizational
repository. This web-enabled application provides
technical content and data to engineering users in
support of the engineering design and development
process. Major components in ESW are the work flow
maps, tools and methods, design criteria, design
standards, lessons learned and practitioner’s
proficiency assessments. This tool also helps
improve quality of design and reduce rework through
the use of a standard design process. |
